Challenge Of The Gobots tv series (1984) is out on DVD

And, alternatively, you can also buy episodes on Youtube. This is my copy of the first five episodes I'm holding here in my hand, but the rest of the tv series is available as well to buy. The complete series is out on DVD. The separate DVD sets are called The Original Miniseries (which I hold in my hand here), Volume One, and Volume Two. (I've included some of the fancy wood ferns I grow in my backyard here in this little vid, simply for a change of scenery in my channel and just because they're pretty.) Challenge Of The Gobots introduces the world's very first female transforming cyborg (Crasher the Porsche 956) who was treated no differently than the men in the series. There are other female gobots too, all of the female gobots are tough and strong and capable (with a few exceptions, such as the female Smallfoot who needed work on her sparring skills), all treated equally to the guys. They appear later in the series. Crasher is the first to appear. Humans feature prominently in the series too, men and women, of different races and nationalities. Some worked for Cy-Kill, the villain. Some didn't. One of them worked for both the Guardians (led by Leader-1) and the Renegades, depending on what benefitted him most at the time. If the Guardians benefitted him most at a certain time, he was with them. If Cy-Kill the Renegade benefitted him most, he worked for Cy-Kill. The human women are treated as equals as well. The show is actually quite woke (so am I that's my political stance, liberal, woke, if anyone is curious). Particularly striking is Crasher being paired with the male Turbo, the strongest physically of the Guardians, to spar with as a rival. Not another woman. In addition, the women cyborgs of COTG have similar bodies to the males, and I think that's notable because women actually are all shapes in real life. Not simply what society says women should look like. So this tv series is actually quite revolutionary for its time.

The tv series Challenge of The Gobots has great stories, and a psychopathic/sociopathic villain (Cy-Kill) you can actually take seriously. I've found that other 80's villains (like Shredder or Hordak or Skeletor) seem more like comic relief (in my opinion anyway) than actually scary. I apologize to fans of those series and I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings and.....well..... I'm sorry, folks, I can't see them as scary/serious enough. Cy-Kill is different. He is hard, cold, very, very, cruel. The complete psychopath/sociopath. And completely serious. When he plans something, it works and one knows he means what he says. As I try to convey with this channel, I don't think Crasher is actually evil. She reminds me of Harley Quinn, and I will explain why in time. But Cy-Kill, he is actually evil. He cares for nothing and no one except himself and there are zero limits to what he does.

I set my channel here to "Not For Kids" because I don't believe this series is for little kids. It IS about a war, so it is violent, and the characters say and do things that I don't think people would want their little kids to emulate. Crasher, at times, given her particular personality as well as her bright yellow eyes and her electric foot stomp, could be scary to a little kid. Also, it should be noted. The gobots DO NOT simply go pew-pew. They get injured, they FIGHT, and there is death and destruction. One death in particular.........

Many folks can recall to a specific death in the Transformers movie (1986) that was traumatizing for them as kids. Yet.....that one had kind of a more peaceful end. Rested on a gurney of some kind, while surrounded by comrades, talking to them. And yet that death did traumatize people as kids. The death of this particular gobot in COTG, well...it's even worse. I'll just say if it wasn't gobots, it would be rated R. It was like the death in the movie Braveheart, only in gobots they show the entire thing. Drawing, quartering, dismembering. (Or, as gobots call it, disassembling.)

No spoilers, for those who haven't seen it. Suffice it to say that that death to me is even more disturbing than the Transformers one.

There are also comments that allude to sexual harassment (Cy-Kill is also a pervert) "I'll send Crasher to have her way with you" he says at one point, and there is another scene where he actually cops a feel on Crasher. (She hates it, of course, and her face shows it.) "come on baby, I have your fuel can, it's right upstairs in the bedroom....." It's what Cy-Kill was likely thinking. So. Yeah. Not for little kids.

So I urge people to buy this series and watch it. Support everyone involved in creating it. It is better than some people make it out to be. I, for one, am a HUGE gobots fan.

Maybe I’m overthinking it.
Maybe it’s maybelline. :D :p
But, I LOVE Crasher and gobots in general and I love writing my own opinions about Crasher.

Thanks for reading! :)

Sincerely,

Jacklyn (AKA Crasher)
