Restoring an early fortepiano for the Carl Bechstein Foundation. Episode 03
All parts of the action are being cleaned and counted, are they all there? Slowly a procedure about what should be done gets clear. We shall never know for how long and where the instrument has been - in an attic or cellar or a barn…
It is certain that it hasn’t been used for a very very very long time, to the great pleasure of the mice.
Since 2019 the Carl Bechstein Foundation in Berlin is building up a collection of historical keyboard instruments, reflecting the history of the piano. All instruments will be in perfect playing condition and in this film-series you'll see the whole proces of a restoration, starting from a total wreck. This fortepiano was built around 1795 in Vienna by Ferdinand Hofmann (1756-1829).
From this restoration film series are two versions, one with a German voice-over and this one with an English voice-over.
