Restoring a fortepiano for the Carl Bechstein Foundation. 15 Glueing of soundboard and ribs
The soundboard, the heart of the instrument, is being re-assembled. The parts have been glued back together and the bridge was glued back on the board. Now the ribs and the cut-off bar are being glued back at the underside. So apart from the glue, everything is still original.
Since 2019 the Carl Bechstein Foundation in Berlin is building up a collection of historical keyboard instruments, reflecting the history of the piano. All instruments will be in perfect playing condition and in this film-series you'll see the whole proces of a restoration, starting from a total wreck. This fortepiano was built around 1795 in Vienna by Ferdinand Hofmann (1756-1829).
From this restoration film series are two versions, one with a German voice-over and this one with an English voice-over.
