Restoring a fortepiano for the Carl Bechstein Foundation 14 Work on the action and veneer

The veneer of the case was in a very bad condition with a lot of old badly done repairs. At one spot somebody had even sanded through the veneer… As far as possible all the original pieces were glued back.
In the meantime work at the action is being done.

Since 2019 the Carl Bechstein Foundation in Berlin is building up a collection of historical keyboard instruments, reflecting the history of the piano. All instruments will be in perfect playing condition and in this film-series you'll see the whole proces of a restoration, starting from a total wreck. This fortepiano was built around 1795 in Vienna by Ferdinand Hofmann (1756-1829).

From this restoration film series are two versions, one with a German voice-over and this one with an English voice-over.
