XLR or USB - YOU Pick: The ATR2100 from Audio-Technica is one of the few microphones on the lower end of the price spectrum that offers both USB and XLR connectivity. The USB connectivity is great for recording right to your laptop. And the XLR output on the ATR2100 is very useful for plugging the microphone into a mixer, XLR-enabled camcorder or PA system. You can also additionally use a XLR-female to 3.5mm male connector to connect the Audio Technica ATR2100 to a camcorder which only has a 3.5mm audio-in jack.
Amazing Sound Quality for the Price: Over the course of our review of the ATR2100, we were rather pleasantly surprised by its recording quality. In fact, when the ATR2100 was connected via USB, the microphone sounded almost like a Cardioid Condenser microphone instead of a Dynamic microphone. The ATR2100 does a great job of suppressing background noise and the sound is very warm and rich.
Live Monitoring: The Audio Technica ATR2100 features a 3.5mm output jack for live monitoring. It was hard to tell any latency at all and the monitoring seemed live. The ATR2100 also has a volume control knob for adjusting the volume output to your headphones.
Good Value for a Beginner Microphone: Through our review of the Audio Technica ATR2100-USB, we were rather surprised by the value that Audio Technica was able to offer at such a price point (Approximately $40- the link to the microphone is below). Considering all its features, we highly recommend this microphone for budding singers, voice-over artists, podcasters and Youtubers on a tight budget.
