The Smiling Elephant Promo

Forest Hope (Jochem van Rijs, Nature Conservation Films, 2018) follows Dutch elephant researcher Antoinette van de Water who committed herself to reduce human-elephant conflicts in Africa and Asia. As the habitat of wild elephants keeps shrinking, due to human population growth and with that, the increase of farmland, human-elephant conflicts are a serious and growing problem. Bring The Elephant Home implements innovative and sustainable solutions for keeping elephants away from farmland and for improving the lives of elephants and people. They don't just limit their work to Thailand but are expanding their work into Africa as well. With this film, which had its world premiere at the Wildlife Film Festival Rotterdam, we will follow Antoinette on her amazing and brave quest.

Forest Hope shows original footage of the start of Bring The Elephant Home in Thailand, like the birth of Chang Yim in 2009. The impact of increasing human-elephant conflicts is also captured by the film crew. Like the moment a baby elephant fell into a well in a rubber plantation and was not able to get out. A spectacular rescue operation followed, with big machines, traditional drums, blessing monks and caring villagers.

On World Animal Day 2019, Forest Hope won the Gouden Vogel Award of House of Animals!
