how to Plumb and Brace a TALL wall : ERECTING the first timber framed bent

In this video, Logan shows you how to properly plumb and brace a super tall and heavy timber framed wall. Nailing an 1-1/2” thick block to the top of the wall and holding a plumb bob string up to it gives you the clearance you need for the head of the plumb bob and then you push or pull the wall (using the 2x6 brace) until measure the same 1-1/2” at the bottom of the wall. And it’s plumb. Simple as that. Then nail off the brace. We added some stiffeners to our brace since they were 30 feet long and kinda wobbly. The bracing should be nailed as high up on the wall as you can get it without interfering with future framing, and as far out away from the wall as the wall is high (45 degree angle). Securing the foot of that brace with a foundation stake on both sides and the heel of the brace kicked into the ground is the best practice to keep the brace from slipping.
