PROPERTY FOR SALE IN CENTRAL PORTUGAL, SLATE ROCK MOUNTAIN VALLEY VILLAGE- WOULD YOU BUY THIS HOUSE?

Hi there! I am Joseph.
I have been an immigrant, or expat, living in central Portugal along with my beautiful girlfriend Mariana for six years now.

Together Mariana and I, along with my father Clinton and my brother in law Lloyd, would like to show you a bit of the daily goings on around our Portuguese farm / homestead / smallholding and all of the work we are doing whilst renovating, starting building projects, working with our livestock, DIY and trying to grow our little families own food!

In this episode we welcome you to join us in mid summer time as we visit and give you a virtual tour of the slate rock mountain valley village of Janeiro de Cima, in rural central Portugal.

Me and Mariana begin by introducing ourselves on a beautiful cobbled street, surrounded by the beautiful xisto houses, we talk a little about what we expect to see and do in the village.

First things first we meander down some of the tight little rock lined lanes and find ourselves a restaurant, 'O Fiado' which was where we decided to head to first.

We followed the road a short distance and found the restaurant 'O Fiado', a beautiful restaurant serving regional dishes, we had a starter of olives, pate and homemade rustic breads. Followed by the main courses chanfana, Portuguese goat stew for me, served with cabbage and crunchy potatoes. Mariana had polvo a lagareiro, desert was chocolate cake with forest fruits and a compote and Mariana had homemade chocolate mousse with ginger biscuit crumbled on top, absolutely divine!

After that, Mariana and I needed a walk, so we ambled along the little slate streets and found a museum, a weaving museum none the less, we took a walk inside and spoke with Rosa, a lovely guide. She showed us all the looms and traditional, ancient ways of producing linen from flax seed. She explained the process to us also and we found it most interesting!

Shortly afterwards Mariana and I found a local gentleman, named senhor Gaspar. He is a basket weaver and was sat outside his workshop when we walked round the corner and spotted him. He called us over and wove a basket for us, alongside a delightful chatter and topped off with Gaspar singing us some amazing rustic fado music in the street, simply magnificent.

Next we were fortunate enough to find another gentleman sitting on his tractor with his faithful dog 'Benfica', a name that fitted the red tractor, and the mans taste in sport I am sure. He informed us that there was a property for sale nearby. He took us to the doors of the house on offer and the owners gave us a tour around their home, giving us a private property tour, this gorgeous slate house would make an amazing investment for somebody looking to start a bed and breakfast business whilst moving to central Portugal, costing €150,000 euros.

We wrapped up our visit down by the praia fluvial, or freshwater swimming beach and after a lovely visit to Janeiro de Cima we decided to leave for home. Once arriving home we had a quick peek at the goslings, which I am sure will be much bigger than you expect after seeing us receive them a few episodes back. We picked some windfall crab apples from the ground and carted them down to the geese in our wheelbarrow. They loved them, of course.

With sunset marking the end of the day I had a little chat with you all down by the geese and their crab apple, grape vine salad, a little recap of the weeks goings on and I explain about the free gifts I plan to send to everyone who has contributed to the Patreon.
