Party City is making a comeback by reopening inside Staples stores as 'Party City at Staples.' After winding down operations and planning a Dec. 20 layoff for staff, the party-supply chain closed hundreds of stores in 2025. The new model, announced by its owner, reimagines Party City with locations and a refreshed site, and it has already opened in more than 700 Staples locations nationwide, with plans to expand to additional stores by the end of 2026. In San Diego County, 10 locations joined Staples, including Carlsbad, El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, San Diego sites (Camino de la Reina Park, Garnet Ave, Kearny Mesa, Rancho Carmel Drive, Sports Arena Blvd), and Vista. The arrangement aims to provide a 'single destination' for celebrations, combining Party City supplies with Staples' print and marketing services. Staples president Marshall Warkentin said the collaboration lets customers shop for balloons, invitations, banners, and more in one place.
