Our road trip to Java Indonesia continues and our first stop is at Depot Rawon Nguling. Famous for the Rawon, the javanese beef stew that uses black keluak nut believed to be poisonous if not cleaned and prepared well. You can enjoy just the lean meat but during our visit, we’ve tried the knee and tail part which are butter tender. Friendly staff and the owner aloows us to enter their kitchen.

Depot Sate Landak “Bu Ria”

Sate is famous in Indonesia but in Malang, one place stands out because of its exotic sate landak (skewered porcupine (sorry In my video I mistranslated landak to a hedgehog instead of porcupine) ), sate biawak (water monitor lizard), sate bulus (soft shelled turtle), sate kambing (goat) and more. These are just some of the unique Javanese Foods you can try here in Malang and they are really rare and must try. My favorite is the soft shelled turtle (not endangered) because of its soft texture and it tasted just like chicken.

Sego Resek - Nasi Goreng Resek (Kasin)

“Sego” means rice and “Resek” means trash if translated it’s like trash rice. Trash because this fried rice is like trash with many things inside it. It has rice, noodle, egg, veggies, chilis and condiments thrown to the wok where it is being cooked. But you can just disregard the trash idea because this Sego Resek tasted way better than its name and just by looking you know that this dish is really really yummy. It is actually my favorite food in Malang and it is also very cheap. Best seller.

Ronde Titoni

The last location for this video is where we have the unique dessert of Indonesia, Ronde Basah and Ronde Campur. These are soupy desserts with rice balls in it, ginger extracts, nuts, mung beans, bread cubes, coconut milk and more. Very famous everywhere in Indonesia usually sold by a vendor going house to house but here in Malang they have a place for dine in and take outs.
