Improving a Portable Planer (minimize snipe)

This video shows how I made a new, long, dead-flat bed for my portable planer to help minimize snipe. The new bed helps in two ways: 1) it removes the flex/uneveness in the existing planer bed, and 2) it helps hold the board level as it enters/leaves the planer. The bed is covered with a 1/4 inch layer of UHMW (ultra high molecular weight) plastic to provide a very slick and durable surface (https://www.curbellplastics.com). The longer bed replaces the very short factory out-feed tables and has greatly minimized the amount of snipe I previously encountered. For longer boards, I can also attach auxiliary out-feed tables to provide further support. The construction of my universal out-feed tables was previously shown in this video:
