SHARKS rescued by hand

Due to a sulphur eruption in the ocean in the Walvis Bay lagoon in Namibia, some sharks seeking oxygenated water were trapped in a shallow pool on an outgoing tide. In a few hours the pool would be dry and the animals would die. Naude Dreyer managed to catch 3 of the Smooth Hound Sharks and released them in deeper water. They were very strong and put up a huge fight. Sharks are not usually part of our animal rescue program at Ocean Conservation Namibia (OCN), but luckily Naude was around when those animals needed help. We did not have a rescue net at the time of the rescue, otherwise Naude would have used it.
Sulphur eruptions are a regular occurrence and not necessarily a sign of climate change.
