This was a very special week for us!
The last weekend was our endeavour's 5th week and end of the 1st month i.e. August of our starting of the Online Concert Series.
So in the last weekend, we were fortunate to have with us the founder of Sashruta, Sri Subir De. 😊
We at Sashruta have devoted ourselves towards the service of Indian Classical Music and promoting the young talents is the foremost agenda of us and Sashruta has been established by Sri Subir De in 2016 in the memory of his uncle, Late Sri Chandrakanta Dey, who was a sitarist in the late 60s and a senior student of Pt. Benjamin Gomes, an exponent of Imdadkhani Gharana and a disciple of Legendary Ustad Vilayet Khan Saheb.
Sri Subir himself being a sitarist who was inspired by his uncle and devoted his life towards music. He did his M.A. in Rabindra Bharati University and became a disciple of the Legend Sangeetacharya Pt. Radhika Mohan Maitra of Senia Shahjahanpur Gharana and later after his sudden demise he has become a Ganda Bandha Student of Ustad Amjad Ali Khan who named Shruti to his daughter and Sri Subir also took talim from Pt. Sunil Mukherjee till his demise.
Not only a performer of Sitar but Subir has nurtured some of the young talents also senior students being a decent teacher, simultaneously being a hardcore Banker too.
Sashruta has been organising classical concerts for the past 3 years and the concert has always been started with the introductory speech of Sri Swapan Dey, who not only is the elder brother of Sri Subir. But he himself was the director of ICWA and a true music worshiper. He was a saint in his life and studied Philosophy and history himself and lead a spiritual life. He has been the author of 4 books and an unfinished one.
In this year, on the 24th of February, we lost him all of a sudden. Not only the family members all the people who he used to think as a family but not connected by blood relation have suddenly lost a person closest to their hearts. We have tried to organise a memoir on him just after the rituals but had to arrange in a hurry and only a few people could make it.
He has been a true lover of music all his life and to pay him proper tribute only it can be the best way.
Regarding the foremost agenda of us and Sri Swapan Dey's utmost love for children, we have always tried to showcase some magnificent Young Artists of our generation.
Simultaneously we have been fortunate enough to have some of the brilliant Senior Artists.
