We are proud and extremely fortunate to have Dr Sanjay Verma Sir from Varanasi for rendering his soulful Vichitra Veena recital on Sunday, 2nd August 2020 from Sashruta.
It is not always possible to listen to such a soulful rendition of morning ragas. Here we have our 2nd presentation in Morning Raga Series from Sashruta.
It is Sri. Swapan Dey's blessings that today we are able to listen to such a rare instrument from Sir. Please come and witness a meditative session ahead with Raga Ahir Bhairav and Bharavi on Vichitra Veena.
'Vichitra Veena is one of the very rare instruments now and a few people are there who practise this amazing instrument.
Importantly a very few people are present who are exponents of this magnificent ancient and traditional Dhrupad instrument.
He is renowned not only for his expertise over more than one instruments but he is an amazing person himself and a great Guru.
Our Sunday sessions will be with senior artists mainly.
We are really grateful to him and express our heartiest gratitude and respect as he has given his consent to perform for us and we are confident enough that this performance has been a great learning experience for us.
He will be delivering a lecture in future also for the benefit of the music learners from our organisation. We owe to him.😇🙏😇

An excerpt about him:
Dr.Sanjay Verma has made a remarkable distinction and is recognised as one of the leading guitarists (young generation) in the field of Hindustani classical Instrumental music. You were born on October 2, 1969, in an agricultural family of Varanasi, which is the cultural capital of India. Sanjay started his Music career at the age of 19. He began learning guitar from his Guru Vidushi Dr Kamla Shankar from Varanasi. Along with the guitar, Dr.Sanjay Verma has learnt Sitar under Prof. Krishna Chakravarty (disciple of Bharat Ratna pt. Ravi Shankar, Maihar Ghana), Prof. Ramdas Chakraborty, Prof. Pushpa Basu, Prof. Sudhakar Bhatt, Faculty of Music & Performing Arts, Benaras Hindu University (BHU). Then he came under the tutelage of Pt.Jotin Bhattacharya (senior disciple of Ustad Baba Allauddin Khan Sahib of Maihar Gharana). Later on, Sanjay Verma became a disciple of the guitar maestro Pt. Brij Bhushan Kabra in the traditional "Guru - Sishya Parampara" of the "Senia - Maihar Gharana. He has completed his "Sangeet Praveen" in Guitar from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad & Diploma, B.Mus, M. Mus. and NET in Sitar and PhD. on "Maihar Gharana ka Sangeet or shastriya guitar vadan" from Faculty of Music & Performing Arts, Banaras Hindu University.
Dr Sanjay Kumar Verma style of playing combines both Druvpad Been Anga, Khayal Gayaki styles and Tantrakari Angs. He is still following the oldest tradition of playing Sarode,
Sitar and Veena with his modified Hawaiian guitar, which has its
own beautiful technical virtuosity and three-octave advantages He is a regular performer at AIR & Doordarshan. From the last few years, you have also started playing the Vichitra Veena. And its proper training is being received from Pt. Rajasekhar Vyas Ji from Udaipur and you have also performed successfully in Dhrupad Music Festival of Udaipur and Varanasi.at present, you are working as Senior Assistant Professor in the Sitar, Instrumental Department of Vasanta college for women, Rajghat Varanasi
