Visiting Damascus Old City - Syria

On my last day in Damascus in Syria, I visited the great Umayyad Mosque; the largest mosque in Syria. This mosque was built in 705 AD making it over 1,000 years old. The area where the mosque stands was previously used by a mosque and a church which existed side by side. Before that, this was the site of the Temple of Jupiter (from Greek mythology).

I was sad to be leaving Damascus. The Old City is very safe and the streets are bustling with people going around doing their daily/weekly shop. My hotel was based in the heart of the old city which made it easy for me to visit different parts at whatever time I decided to. Watch my previous video and see how I felt safe to walk around at night here.

This was my last day in Damascus. I left the city and headed to Lebanon by road to stay in Beirut.
