HOMS - Visiting SYRIA's Most Dangerous City 2022

Welcome to Homs - a city in western Syria. Homs was once a bustling and busy city with a large student population. Today, unfortunately most of the city lies in ruins after the siege of Homs during the Syrian Civil War - a fierce battle between the Syrian army and the Free Syrian Army, which resulted in the Syrian government recapturing Homs in 2014. The battle lasted for three years until 2014.
Homs still has functioning universities and students can be seen going to and from university. Unfortunately, tourists can only really visit the church ands mosque these days, as the government are no longer granting permission for tourists to wander around the city. The people of Homs are extremely friendly.
In this video, I visit the Khaled Ibn Alwhaled shrine in Homs. The mosque which houses this shrine has recently been regenerated, with carved wooden doors and elegant glass light covers making up a giant chandelier. Each glass cover was hand made in Egypt. Each one of these costed $140 each.

Um Al-Zennar church is believed to be one of the oldest churches in the world. This site now consists of three churches, the oldest being underground. This church contains an artefact believed to have been worn by the Virgin Mary herself.
