BNSF SD9-3 on the North Shore Scenic Railroad

Making its second revenue run, former BNSF SD9-3 1550 is operating on the North Shore Scenic Railroad's "Duluth Zephyr".

BNSF 1550 started life in 1954 as GN 573 and saw service in the Duluth area before the BN & BNSF mergers saw it roam around the system. It was upgraded and overhauled in 1998 & 2017 to give it its current appearance from a high hood SD9 to a chop-nose SD9-3. At one time the locomotive was RCO equipped.

BNSF donated 1550 to the Lake Superior Railroad Museum in 2022.
