DM&IR Proctor Switch

FIlmed October 18, 2021.

Recently, to the surprise of many northern railfans, CN reunited the last two DM&IR diesel locomotives on their roster and used them for the yard switch job in Proctor, MN, a former DM&IR hub.

The job's schedule varies day-to-day, and on this day they were switching former DM&IR side dump and ore cars on the west end, making for a brief time capsule of a couple decades ago.

The DM&IR (Duluth Missabe & Iron Range) was founded in 1874 and lasted until the 2000s when it was merged with WC under Canadian National ownership. Over time, DM&IR locomotives were either sold off, donated, or repainted. DM&IR 215 (SD38-2) & DMIR 403 (SD40-3/SD45T-2) are the last in maroon & gold on the CN roster and are seen here on home rails.

This video was filmed hand-held from the public roads of Railroad Ave & St Louis River Rd. Due to timing and circumstances, this was the best I could get, which, truthfully, is better than nothing!
