WORLD RECORD: "Deadlift - 400kg (881pounds) for REPS"... But WHO OWNS IT ?

The 'World Deadlift Champs' in 2017 saw 2 men lift 400 kg aka 881 lbs for 5 repetitions. It was done as Event 1 in the Giants Live: World Tour Finals contest that was hosted at Manchester Arena in front of 8,800 fans.

The Event was a new twist for the annual World Deadlift Championships - a contest that brings all the strongest dead lifters together from all strength fields to have a deadlift shoot out.

With a Time Limit set at just "60 seconds" ion an effort to test the greatest dead-lifters at at a weight that was actually once considered an impossible feat of strength.

In fact, 400kg was only lifted once in competition before 1976.

The World Record was set by Don Reinhoudt in 1975 - who deadlifted 881 pounds at bodyweight of 350lbs to set a new World Powerlifting Record - and give or take a few grams, it was as near to a metric 400kg as had ever been lifted before that point.

This particular twist to the simple Deadlift - reps in 60 secs - gives no real recovery between reps, and with goal of 5 reps set as the 'target' for the Athletes to shoot for - why? because it was created as an event to matcha incredible 'gym session' once done by Benedikt Magnusson - Powerlifting Deadlift World Record Holder- a few years prior. Benny supposedly had lifted 5 reps at 400kg in his training at a gym.

Interestingly, Magnusson was there competing, but didn't come in in perfect shape. So the actual contest Record was set by two names well known to strongman fans..

- JF Caron of Canada, and
- Konstantine Janashia of Georgia.

Both men did 5 reps for the Official 'COMPETITION WORLD RECORD'
