The day KEVIN NEE LIFTED a WORLD RECORD...( without even realising )

Back in 2008 the strongman deadlift record - set with straps and on a standard height bar was done by Gerrit Badenhorst - 410kg.

At the WSM Qualifying contest held in Storefjell in Norway that year a rising bar deadlift contest gave rise to a surprise lift of 900lbs by a very sure-prised lifter - Kevin Nee.

Nee didn't realise he was pulling 5kg more than 405kg - which was already a. PB.for the American. Pulling, 410kg in the final round, after the referees had initially gone for 405kg to split the athletes apart, meant he equalled Badenhorst's lift of 410kg in a strongman contest and he joined the 900lbs club!!

Athletes in final two rounds inc. Mark Felix, Arild Haugen, and Jarek Dymek are all in the final rounds this contest.

Please note: Andy Bolton was actually doing 900 lbs with relative ease in. 2008 and was the. first man over a 1000 lbs from powerlifting, but Strongmen/strongman had yet to catch up with the best powerlifters in the deadlift.

It's fair to say, Eddie Hall changed upped the level of strongman deadlifting forever in 2016. Thanks to Andy Bolton. and Benni Magnusson too - the World. Deadlift Championships was. born. and the greatest lifters from all strength sport meet once a year. at the Giants Live World Deadlift Champs. The record now sits at 500kg.
