Russian Art Focus: interview with Maria Koshenkova
A sculptor and glass artist, Russia’s Maria Koshenkova has been living in Denmark for 15 years. Her projects are exhibited in museums from America to Japan and her glassworks are on display in Brussels, Rome and St. Petersburg, the city in which she was born.
Koshenkova fights the notion that the intrinsic beauty of glass makes this material a poor fit for storytelling. The artist blends her innate desire for conflict with Scandinavian aesthetics to preserve in the glass strong emotion she gets from the world.
