LOST STAR by R. Tagore
The poem "Lost Star" is about the natural order and perfection of the cosmos. Like the ancient philosopher Empedocles, the Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore states that the greatest perfection is imperfection. Perfection depends on incompleteness ("perfectio propter imperfectionem"), since the latter possesses a potential for development and for complementing with new characteristics ("perfectio complementii"). This concept is connected with the myth of Lucifer, the motif of a heavenly being striving for the highest seat of heaven only to be cast down to the underworld. In ancient texts from Sumer and other civilizations of the ancient Near East and South Asia, the fall of Lucifer (also known as Baltis, Ninsianna, Shalim, Shukra, et cetera) originally symbolized the motions of the planet Venus.
