LECCO BETWEEN THE PAGES OF "THE BETROTHED"

The most legendary and romanticized city in Lombardy is Lecco, situated at the southeastern extremity of lake Como. Italian author Alessandro Manzoni wrote his historical novel "The Betrothed" which tells of the power struggle between Catholic priests and local thugs during the Thirty Years' War and against the backdrop of a plague epidemic.
