Valdo Calocane ‘shouldn’t have been out in the first place’: Kevin Maguire
Associate Editor of the Daily Mirror Kevin Maguire says the “failure of justice” surrounding Valdo Calocane’s sentencing, wasn’t the sentencing itself but rather the fact that he was out in the public in the first place.
32-year-old Valdo Calocane was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order following the manslaughter of University of Nottingham students Grace O’Malley-Kumar and Barnaby Trent, as well as primary school caretaker Ian Coats, in Nottingham in the UK last year.
“I put myself in the shoes of the parents and I would feel cheated by the system,” Mr Maguire told Sky News Australia host Piers Morgan of the verdict.
“I think where it went wrong is not in the sentence because he will be locked away forever.
“I think it's why was he free anyway when he had been sectioned four times and there were warrants out for his arrest, and the police hadn’t ticked him off.
“I think that is the failure – not the verdict.”
