Why I Now Prefer the Old Vintage Sized Fender Frets
Leo Fender gets it right the first time again. A couple of announcements in this video. One has to do with Roger Mayer so please watch. One of the reasons I recently ordered a custom Hendrix neck made to late '60's Fender CBS specs was to see how much difference the smaller frets made in Jimi's sound. They made a big difference and I could hear more Jimi in my guitar. It has been probably 25+ years since I've played a neck with vintage Fender frets. The stainless steel option is what saved the day. SS frets were first available in the early 90's but have now become a standard in many guitars. I would have never installed the small frets in nickel because they would wear out too quickly. I couldn't be happier with the results and how much more "Hendrixy" my guitar sounds with them installed.
Part 1 of the Roger Mayer interview will be on Guitar Village's YouTube channel hopefully next Friday, Dec. 2nd with Part 2 on the following Friday. The first part will be about the various artists Roger has worked with from Jimi to SRV, Stevie Wonder and Bob Marley. The second part will contain more information about setups, tech specs, pedal mods, etc.
