Ulan Ude, capital of Buryatia is great, and it’s where you’ll almost certainly kick off your nomadic adventure in the region. However, it’s only once you exit the city that you’ll see the real Buryatia.

Buryatia’s highlights are of course its Buddhist culture, and there’s nowhere better to familiarize yourself than at the famous Datsan near Ivolginsk. Plus the food’s pretty good too!
