Michael Hicks, Ph.D.

Michael Hicks is training in the lab of April Pyle. His research focuses on finding new treatments for muscle wasting diseases, specifically Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), which affects approximately 1 in 5,000 boys in the U.S. and is the most common fatal childhood genetic disease. In this video, Hicks describes how he’s using gene editing technologies in conjunction with specific strategies that effectively mature stem cells into the type of muscle cell needed to repair the muscle deterioration associated with DMD.
