Should You Worry About Collection Lawsuits if You are Currently Unemployed and Cannot be Garnished
Why should you worry about a collection lawsuit if you are unemployed and not curently subject to wage garnishment?
As I discuss in this video, you should never just ignore a collection lawsuit. You may be unemployed today but 6 months, a year or two years from now you may have a job.
If you do not respond to a collection lawsuit, the plaintiff creditor will obtain a #defaultjudgment. They can sit on that judgment for years and if at some point down the road you open a bank account or you land a job, that judgment can be immediately turned into a #wagegarnishment or #bankaccountlevy.
Even if you think you will always be “judgment proof,” you never can be sure that money or assets may come your way. Interitances, gifts even a lottery win could put you into a very different financial position.
The best time to deal with a lawsuit is always before it turns into a judgment.
