Sheep calcium deficiency
Here we have one of our in lamb ewes struggling with calcium deficiency. This normally cuts in a bit closer to lambing than this when they start trying to produce milk as well as growing the lambs and keeping themselves healthy.
The only treatment we know to use is Injected calcium and also a calcium drench to try and get the amount in the system up. This sheep also was really thirsty so may have not been drinking for a few days either we literally had to put her head in the bucket to drink!
We normally manage to get them to lambing when they are like this but sometimes at the cost of not having any milk.
Our long term plan is to improve the forage they are eating everyday. Whether it’s fresh grass in the fields of silage the we make in the summer to feed in the winter.
