The Steve Morse Scale Workout

Hey everybody! Here's the next episode of Scales & Tales with The Steve Morse Scale Workout. I'm not sure if any of the viewers noticed, but the Steve Morse Soloing Secrets episode that was posted a few days ago was a few minutes shorter than the average Soloing Secrets video, and there's a reason for that. I filmed a clip that I eventually pulled during the editing process, with the idea to create this episode, which is really eye-opening and an extension of Steve's recent Soloing Secrets lesson - so let's dive in!

The concept behind this episode revolves around a classic Steve Morse lesson that appeared in the May 1992 issue of Guitar World (with Randy Rhoads on the cover). In that issue, Steve has an extensive lesson called 'Dixie Flyer' which shared all sorts of cool ideas, including a challenging scale workout, which is shared and expanded upon in this episode.

This lesson begins with Steve's original concept/idea in A Major (Ionian), and then floats through several variations/mutations of the source material, by moving to other keys, fretboard positions, string groups, and more!

Needless to say, if you're a Steve Morse fan, a viewer hungry for more Morse-based fretboard action, or maybe a player searching for some new ways to practice scales while expanding your knowledge of the fretboard at the same time - this lesson is totally for you!
