Here's the step by step instructions I took for installing faux shiplap to an uneven wall in my master bedroom. This section will also be used to hang a barn door and I thought the shiplap would be an awesome backdrop. Turned out, I was right.

It really is as simple as getting 1/4" or thinner plywood. Use a 4'x8' sheet and rip it into 8" sections with a table saw or have the lumber store cut it for you. The last piece will be thinner than 8" so save it for the top or bottom of your wall.

To fasten the shiplap, simply nail it in with a ryobi nail gun or staple gun of some sort. Stagger the pieces so the seams don't line up. Space out the faux shiplap with a nickel or quarter so it has an even gap that allows the wood to expand and contract under certain temperature and humidity changes.
