Colin Ahearn has relentlessly campaigned against methanol poisoning throughout the tourist hotspot, and now he’s advising travellers to trash finished bottles of alcohol to lower the chances of the bottles being reused and refilled with methanol, which is a cheap, tasteless and odourless alternative to alcohol.

Colin told Yahoo News, “Trash the label, wreck the lid and make it harder for people to sell your bottle.”

“It just makes [reusing the bottle] that little bit harder and less attractive.”

To avoid the danger of poisoning altogether, Colin urged tourists to stick to beer, wine or premixed drinks sold in mini marts and supermarkets.

He explained, “If you do that, just drink that, then there’s no chance of you getting hit with methanol.”
