Jun Peng was mourning the death of his mother when he noticed that his cat was drinking more water and losing weight.

Peng wrote online that “I took him to the vet - and the next day, I got the call no pet owner ever wants to hear. The tests showed kidney disease. He was only one year and 10 months old.”

“Then I realised what had happened: the flowers that friends had sent after my mother’s passing had lilies in them - a plant highly toxic to cats.”

Lilies are some of the most dangerous plants for cats and dogs, and Peng is now warning Aussies that even brushing against the pollen or drinking from a vase that held lilies can trigger near-instant kidney failure in cats.
