A division one winner recently tried using an iron to remove wrinkles from their lottery ticket before taking it to The Lott headquarters - but the ticket began to burn and darken in front of them.

Seemingly innocent mistakes like that have prompted The Lott to urge players to take better care of their tickets if they plan on cashing in.

Spokesperson Anna Hobdell said she’s seen tickets blackened in laminators, left to fade on fridges, hidden in shopping bags or even accidentally thrown away.

Anna reminded the public that the quickest and safest way to be informed of a win is to register your entry.
