Rapid Resolve - The Skin Tone Indicator

Skin tone is a spectrum of human skin color that ranges from the darkest brown to the lightest hues, and is influenced by the amount of melanin present into the skin.

The skin tone indicator is a tool used in color correction and grading to help ensure that skin tones in video footage appear natural and consistent (unless you are going for a look that does not desire this, in which case, it helps you achieve your look). The skin tone indicator is found in the vectorscope. The vectorscope shows color, and the saturation of that color.

The skin tone indicator is a reference line on the vectorscope. Skin tone is in an area between red and yellow on t he vectorscope.

The skin tone indicator is not meant as a strict determiner of all skin hues. The goal is not to align skin to the indicator line strictly. Use it as a guide to detect and reduce deviations. Skin tones can vary based on lighting, ethnicity and individual characteristics. All skin tones, regardless of race or ethnicity, should fall somewhere around the indicator line.

To turn the skin tone indicator on in DaVinci Resolve, on the Color page, display the vectorscope.
