Creative Mechanical Design in Old Fashioned Mechanisms - The Pick and Place Machine pt. 1 #shorts

Before there was computer control and electronics, production relied on the creative use of mechanical design to automate its processes. This is an example of a pick-and-place mechanism that would be used to move products from one part of an assembly line to another.

This video focuses on the back of the mechanism, which converts the rotational motion from the motor to a reciprocating rotation in the pinion (small gear). The cool thing is that it uses a rack, or linear gear, to achieve this.
