Roger II and the Sicilian Golden Age
Roger II would be the one to finally unite the Norman conquests in Southern Italy, and after meeting fierce resistance from Popes and Emperors eventually weld them into the new kingdom of Sicily. His reign would mark the zenith of Norman power in the region, and his realm streched over the central Mediterranean, from Tunisia to Greece. Like most of the Norman rulers, he was tolerant towards the differant faiths and cultures that he ruled over, and became known as an intellectual and patron of art.
