William the Good of Sicily: The calm before the storm
William I became known as "the Bad" despite being a decent ruler, and his son, William II, would be known as "the Good" without much merit. Spending most of his reign in the palace, William II didn't accomplish much of note personally. He did however have competent men around him, which could administer his realm and lead his armies into battle. During William's reign, Sicily enjoyed internal stability, but with his death in 1189, without having any children of his own, that would soon change ...
