What’s Happening with the Bulls? New Challenges Among the Elephant Herd! 🐘

We have had a few interesting behaviour changes among the bulls in the herd lately! The big instigator is Mambo! Mambo is growing up and has been seen challenging his mother Lundi, as though trying to establish more independence from her. He perhaps doesn't feel he needs his mother's protection anymore as he and Zindoga continue to challenge each other and determine their role in the herd and hierarchy.

One night Mambo bullied his mother and Jabulani stepped in to join with Lundi and gang up on Mambo — to put the younger bull in his place.

Fishan has even stepped in to discipline Mambo - giving the young bull a knock on his rear end that we have had to treat and clean.

It’s great to see Jabulani taking on this disciplinary role as he grows up too. Jabulani has also been part of other challenges as normally docile bull, and fourth in hierarchy, Somopane has been trying his luck and challenging and sparring with Jabulani in the homestead. For this very reason the homestead is split into sections to keep bulls apart and prevent harm to the rest of the herd. But these two have continued to spar and have even damaged a few wooden barriers in the homestead area.
