After the Great Sith War, the Mandalorian ranks had been greatly depleted. Their new leader, Mandalore the Ultimate, feared that the long prophesied Great Last Battle or Anila Akaan was soon to take place and that the Mandalorians were woefully unprepared. As Mandalore the Indomitable had done before him, Mandalore the Ultimate travelled to the Planet Shogun. Mandalore the Ultimate claimed to have had a divine revelation that would allow for anyone to join the mandalorian ranks, as long as they adhered to the strict mandalorian code.
After this revelation, the Mandalorians set up several training stations for aliens to learn the ways of the mandalorians. Mandalore the Ultimate travelled to many backwater worlds, giving great speeches and rallying many to the Mandalorian cause. The Allure of the mandalorian way of life was enticing to many within the galaxy. Many were fed up with the corruption within the Republic or had lost everything in the Great Sith War. The promise of purpose, tradition and the spoils of war bolstered the Mandalorian ranks to yet unseen levels.

It was during this time that Mandalore the Ultimate promoted Cassus Fett as his lieutenant. He advised the implementation of a more uniform armour, designed to prevent factionalism within the Mandalorian ranks, leading to the rise of the neo-crusader era of Mandalorians.
In 3978 BBY, Mandalore the Ultimate was approached by a member of the Sith Species. He claimed to be a servant of the Great Sith Emperor Vitiate who was said to have had a vision of the Mandalorians sweeping across the Republic with Mandalore the Ultimate leading them.
Emboldened by this vision and under the influence of the Sith, Mandalore the Ultimate launched the Mandalorian wars, conquering many worlds in the outer rim and carving out an empire the size of Hutt Space in just under a decade. For a long while, neither the republic nor the Jedi wanted to get involved in this war especially as it was so soon after the Great Sith war. This inaction created tension within the Jedi ranks, with The ruthlessness of the Mandalorians only exacerbating this divide. The genocide of the Cathar species by Cassus Fett forced the Jedi Revan, a long time advocator of action against the Mandalorians, to eventually take up action against the Mandalorians. He donned a Mandalorian helmet of a female Mandalorian who had been gunned down for protesting Cassus Fetts genocide. This began the Jedi splinter group known as the Revanchists, who pledged to defeat the Mandalorians without the blessing of the Jedi high council.
After conscripting many conquered worlds people into their ranks, the Mandalorians seemed unstoppable. However, by 3964 BBY, the Mandalorians had stopped their conquests and seemed to be consolidating their grip over their current holdings.

However, In a surprise attack, the Mandalorians swept through the Republic forces on Onderon. This was a symbolic victory for the Mandalorians as this had been where Mandalore the Indomitable had been defeated just over 30 years before during the Great Sith Wars. Spurred on by this victory, the Mandalorians took Vanquo and Taris in quick succession.

Finally forced to act, the Republic took a defensive stance against the Mandalorians, placing their forces within population centres as a deterrent. Seeing this as an act of extreme cowardice, the mandalorians spared no one, ordering the nuclear bombardment of over 27 population centres on Serecco while also destroying much of Duro and Eres 3.

The Mandalorian war was beset with horrors brought upon by the dark side and cutting edge technological progress. On one such occasion a Mandalorian scientist named Pulsipher found and attempted to weapoinise the ancient sith amulet known as the Muur Talisman. This unwittingly transformed the neo crusaders into ghastly beings known as Rakghouls, causing havoc across the base. It was only with the full nuclear bombardment of the fortress that the plague was stopped from spreading.
Another terrifying creation of this war was the ability to control the feared Exogorths by the Arkanians. They were hypothesized to be able to destroy entire star systems with the control of their reproduction, theoretically leading to runaway exponential growth of these creatures and the consumption of whole planets. Fortunately, for the Galaxy the Mandalorians were unable to fully weaponize them.
