breakfastclub
Don McNeill's "Breakfast Club" was the nation's longest running network radio show, airing from Chicago between 1933 and 1968.
I searched for the reasons behind the show's longevity in this piece I put together for WTTW's "Chicago Stories" series. It aired February 18, 2004.
Apart from archival material, it features individuals close to the broadcast and members of Don McNeill's family. (His son Bob was one of one of my New Trier High School classmates. His son the Reverend Don McNeil C.S.C., who passed away in 2017 at the age of 81, was the founding director of Notre Dame University's Center for Social Concerns).
Bob Sirott introduces this piece. Roy Alan operated the field camera. Bob Furem edited the video.
