Archie's Shoe Shop on our 1:20.3 Model Railroad - Karyn's Homage to her Grandfather Archie
Karyn has recreated her grandfather's shoe repair shop in 1:20.3 scale for our large-scale model railroad. She scratch-built everything with 3D-printed windows.
The full interior is "cobbled" together (appropriate as it's a cobbler's repair shop) all the interior details from wood and bits from the parts bin. The only thing not scratch-built is Archie's figure, "Engineer Bill" from Ozark Miniatures. "Bill" was recarved to look like Archie working from photos of Karyn's grandfather.
The equipment inside consists of a giant shoe buffer, about six feet long with many buffing and smoothing wheels on a long axle given by a large electric motor. The motor is controlled by a fuse box with a shut-off handle.
Another machine is a five-foot-tall stitcher for attaching soles to shoes. Also a heavy sewing machine, a coal furnace, several chairs, and a workbench.
