Incredible KUWAITI KEBABS & TEA at Traditional Cafe Shemaimry | Kuwait City, Kuwait

My adventures on my first day in Kuwait continued well into the night as my boy Yousef and I headed back out to grab some dinner! Come along with us as we enjoy some incredible Kuwaiti kebabs and tea at Traditional Café Shemaimry in Kuwait City, Kuwait!

We started our night at Al Shaheed Park, which was dedicated to the people who lost their lives in the war. It’s a green belt that will go around Kuwait City and has the skyline right behind it. They’re not finished building it, though! It was a nice, breezy evening. There are also cafés and restaurants nearby.

The park is very well-kept and has lots of benches everywhere, as well as fountains and ponds. There were lots of people walking, jogging, and working out. You can see the entire Kuwait City skyline from there. It’s really beautiful!

We were getting hungry, so we headed over to Traditional Café Shemaimry, which is an open-air café and teahouse that overlooks Kuwait Bay. It was built in 1979 and is a popular place for Kuwaiti people to gather and talk about politics and other topics. The restaurant is named after the owner who lost his life in 1985 due to a bomb blast where the restaurant now stands. They changed the name to the owner’s name after that. There’s tons of history there and it’s an iconic restaurant.

Along the way, I realized just how big Kuwait is! The restaurant looked really close on the map, but it still took us ten minutes to get there by car. Once there, we ordered a plate of four kebabs, plus a dish consisting of bread with meat inside. It cost us 2 Kuwaiti dinar. You then get two tokens, which you give to the guys who start putting together your order.

Our order also came with some greens. We sat on the far left, where it was well-lit. It was much cooler out there. In the kitchen, it was boiling hot! There were lots of cats hanging around!

We had some amazing-looking kebabs, regular bread, bread stuffed with minced meat. The bread stuffed with minced meat was really tasty and also contained onions, herbs, and spices. It was crispy and smoky on the outside and the mincemeat filling was spread throughout!

Then, I grabbed some of the other bread and had tried some of the kebabs with it. I couldn’t get enough of the spices in these Kuwaiti kebabs. They were so good! Then, I went for some of the herbs, and then back to the kebabs. I wrapped some herbs in the bread with the kebabs, which was even better! It was incredible! Yousef was on a diet, so he’d barely eaten all day, but he was finally eating!

The kebabs were so good, I didn’t even need bread with them. I rolled more kebabs up with the herbs. The juices from the kebabs soaked into the bread. As we ate, the cats continued to clamor around us. I felt bad for them because they wanted the food, but I couldn’t feed them.

These were the best kebabs in Kuwait! They were amazing!

Then, we had some nice tea with no sugar. It was really hot and similar to Moroccan tea, except Moroccan tea has mint and this one didn’t.

From there, we drove to the tallest tower in Kuwait, Al Hamra Tower. It was lit up in purple and yellow and is in the middle of the downtown area. It’s also the tallest carved concrete skyscraper in the world at 414 meters tall. It’s beautiful and has a giant LED screen and fountains outside.
