What is the Military Operation Order - OPORD?

As a retired Army Special Forces Lieutenant Colonel, I have had the honor of contributing to written military orders and missions all over the world shoulder to shoulder with soldiers, Sailers, Marines, and Airmen from dozens of nations. These orders varied from combat operations with Green Berets to counter drug missions with Navy Seals. Others orders were for training with Tier One Units or exercises with national or theater special operations commands. The one common denominator for all of these orders is that they were written and published using the 5 paragraphs operations order or OPORDER format.
In today’s video we are going to take a look at the 5 paragraph military operations order starting with an overview, a discussion of the format, and then we will break down the subparagraphs.
