Spotlight on: the Omega Speedmaster, and the celebrities who love it.

The Omega Speedmaster won't be missing in any watch collector's list of grail watches. It earns a nod in terms of prestige, performance, history, and even price. What more could one ask for in a watch?

That the Omega Speedmaster is the first watch on the moon is pretty well known. Several Hollywood stars have worn the Speedy in movies about it’s historic past.

Tom Hanks had an Omega Speedmaster MoonWatch on his wrist, when he played commander Jim Lovell in Apollo 13. It documents the twists of the third Moon landing mission.

The Omega Speedy has been a part of NASA's lunar missions since 1969; and that is part of its allure. If it's good enough for NASA, then it's good enough for anyone.

Actor-director Ron Howard earned a Director's Guild of America award for his direction of Apollo 13. Many years after, his affinity for the Speedy remains - he's known to have given a Speedy to some of his actor-coworkers.

Iron Man Robert Downey Jr, Castle’s Stana Katic, and The Late Late Show host James Corden also sport the Omega Speedmaster.

Every 5 years, Omega releases a commemorative watch to celebrate the moon landing’s anniversary. Let’s take a look at some of them!

When off duty as James Bond, Daniel Craig wears an Omega Speedmaster Apollo 11, which features a silver medallion at 9 o'clock. It depicts the American eagle descending onto the moon, as a homage to the 40th anniversary of the first moon landing.

If you want something a little more unique, here's an Omega Speedmaster in 18k yellow gold, as worn by George Clooney. 

The specially formulated gold is meant to imitate the paler shade of yellow the moon becomes, on particularly ominous nights.

Inspired by the mysteriousness and allure of space, Omega came up with the ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ collection, seen here on New England Patriot receiver Julian Edelman.

Still based on the iconic design of the MoonWatch, the collection is unique in that it doesn’t make use of steel or gold; but is crafted from a single block of black zirconium oxide ceramic. 

It’s an extension of the Omega Speedmaster line, but one that still pays homage to its legacy in space exploration.

The Omega Speedmaster is truly a must-have in every watch collection.
