Basemap Upload, Sensor Calibrations & Start Up - ME221 Install Pt 02 | Supercharging an MX5 Ep 09
Part 02 of the ME221 ECU installation involves connecting the laptop to the ECU via the tuning cable and firing up the tuning software (MEITE). With a connection established between the two I then need to upload a basemap for my 1.8VVT MX5. This basemap was downloaded directly from Motorsport Electronics online basemap depository which can be found through their website. Once the basemap is successfully loaded I need to check the readings from the sensors look correct. This includes the Inlet Air Temp, the Coolant Temp, Batt Voltage and Manifold Pressure. If all these sensor readings look good I'll then be calibrating the throttle position sensor (TPS) & the AEM Series X AFR gauge. This was mentioned in the previous episode where I installed the AFR gauge at begins at 4.15 timestamp. After all this is done it'll be time to attempt a first start up, and then hopefully a test drive.. or not in this case - sadly problems were encounted and this wasn't possible. I am working on a solution..
The ECU in this video is a Gen 1 ME221 (black board), but this procedure will also apply to the Gen 1 ME442, AND the Gen 2 ME221 & ME442 (white board). Many parts of this video will also be applicable to other popular standalone plug & play ECUs for the MX5, for example, the Megasquirt MS2 & MS3, and Speeduino boards.
