Alternator Replacement - Mk2 NB to Mk1 NA Swap How To | Supercharged MX5 / Miata Build Ep 10

I'm swapping out the Alternator in my 2001 NBFL MX5 & replacing it with an earlier NA mk1 unit. The good news is, it's a bolt in swap. The bad news, I need to make some changes to the wiring loom in order for the older alternator to work correctly in this car. If you didn't see the last episode (https://youtu.be/6mUXCusK7X8), I made a disappointing discovery - the 2nd hand ME221 I purchased had a voltage regulation issue & I couldn't drive the car due to over charging problems. This is because in the Mk2's and onwards the ECU controls the voltage from the alternator. However, this is not the case in the Mk1s - these cars had a voltage regulator built into the alternator. So by swapping an earlier alternator with voltage regulator into my car, I hope to bypass the fault with the ME221 ECU. If it works I'll get a 2nd chance at the ECU install, which you'll see in the next video.
