1. Gansu is a landlocked province in Northwest China.
2. The State of Qin, known in China as the founding state of the Chinese empire, grew out from the southeastern part of Gansu, specifically the Tianshui area.
3. Lanzhou is the capital and largest city of Gansu Province.
4. Jiayu Pass is the first frontier fortress at the west end of the Ming dynasty Great Wall.
5. The historic Silk Road starts in Chang'an and goes to Constantinople (Istanbul).
6. Bingling Temple s a Buddhist cave complex in a canyon along the Yellow River. Labrang Monastery is one of the 6 great monasteries of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism.
7. Mogao Caves form a system of 500 temples southeast of the center of Dunhuang. The Maijishan Grottoes are a series of 194 caves cut in the side of the hill of Majishan.
