Making Elizabeth Bennet's dress from Pride & Prejudice, part II

This is the second video (and last) about this little project, Elizabeth Bennet's brown jumper dress from Pride & Predudice (2005). All in all, it came together very quickly, I think the whole costume took a little over a week. There were some delays with the fabric dyeing and having to wait for extra dyes to arrive. I think I ended up with the colour tone to be spot on, but needed the colour to be a little deeper. The dress itself was made in about two to three days, which for me is very good! I end up handsewing a lot so I'm probably the slowest seamstress ever.

I lost some footage in the middle of the video so I just wanted to explain it a bit more here. I started out drafting the bodice by draping it on my dressform, without any darts , as I couldn't spot any shaping features on the bodice in the film. However, I was talking a lot about my mock-ups and fit on my Instagram stories (it's where I think out loud haha), and someone very helpfully pointed out that in one of the screenshots, you can just see the trace of curved seams in the front piece of the bodice (it's this image: https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/592082682242096462/). Once those were spotted, there were very faint lines in the other screenshots too, which I had just dismissed as creases or just part of the fabric. This linen looks very light and malleable that it could very well have hidden princess seams!

Since this isn't a historical reconstruction, or a cosplay, and I wasn't worried about being absolutely exact to the film, I decided to include princess seams as well. This made the bodice fit my body much better and more wearable for day-to-day, for historybounding and the likes! However, my fabric is different, so they are much more noticeable. Over all, I think the effect is there! I don't have a lot of footage of the finished dress due to some problems with camera exposure and Nature's wind, but I do hope to get more photos soon which I will keep posting on my Instagram. ALSO the clanking sound is fixed because they fixed my street! This should be the last video to have any traces of it.
