Making Elizabeth Bennet's dress from Pride & Prejudice, part I
Hello everyone and welcome to a new video!
Today's video is about making Elizabeth Bennet's dress from Pride & Prejudice (2005). The costume consists of an undershirt and a dress.
Being a book nerd as I am, I started reading Jane Austen novels when I was about 13. At this point, I've read all her books, watched every adaptation and wrote essays about it in university. However, I have never been a fan of Regency fashion so I was entirely unattracted to the costuming in these adaptations. Except for this adaptation and this one particular costume, probably because it is not very 'Regency-esque'. I will go a little bit more into Regency things in the intro to the second video, where I make the dress, as this video only covers the undershirt. I have been doing more research into Regency fashion, so I was thinking of maybe doing a costume review for the film, what do you guys think?
The shirt is very simply made. I actually think it's a great beginner sewing project! And it could have definitely been done in a day if using your machine for the finishing. I purchased 4 meters of cotton muslin, and I had a little left over, even after using two layers for the main part of the shirt. I am really excited to tackle the dress and see this all come together! The shirt turned out very comfortable, light weight, and perfectly adaptable for summer day wear, so I can wear it for historybounding too!
